Description:Bloodstone burnishing tool with a wooden handle and brass sleeve.
Roughly 9cm in length.
Used on ware with gold decoration.
The gold would be wiped with a moist abrasive powder called silver sand. It was then rubbed with a burnishing tool to give it a brilliant finish.
Taken from a collection of tools belonging to Mrs Edith Finney, born Toft (1884-1979), who worked at Crown Staffs, Paragon China and then Crown Staffs until her retirement in 1962.
