Description:View from outside St. Chad's Church, looking north.

On the left is Shaw's House, named after a shoemaker who lived there in the nineteenth century and thought to have been erected earlier than the Ancient High House next door. In 1947 the plaster facade of Shaw's House was restored; the new plaster was painted to represent the timber framing underneath.

The carts in the distance appear to be loaded with animal hides; one of Stafford's main industries at this time was shoe manufacture.
