Description:Oil painting by an unknown artist. This painting has been tentatively attributed to the Victorian genre painter Henry Nelson O'Neil (1817-1880).

The painting appears to have been inspired by the Volunteer movement of he early 1860s, which was in reponse to the threat of French invasion. The young man in the centre of the painting is being enlisted, despite the fears of his womenfolk.
