Description:Pottery factory interior depicting a female worker in the process of sponging ware.

The photograph was taken at Booth's pottery factory in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent.

The worker in the picture is named Miss Maud Hancock. There is a description of her and the sponging process attached to the photograph.

"Everyone at Booths calls her Maud for she is one of the most popular of all Booths personalities. Maud Hancock started work in the potteries as a very young girl after having jobs in several other firms she came finally to Booths where she has remained ever since. Her job is to tow or trim the clay ware as to smooth out any surface irregularities before the ware is sent to the ovens for firing.

Life has not always been easy for Maud. She has never been able to go far from hame as her mother is an invalid. But Maud has a very cheerful heart and she will tell you that she does not believe in worry."
