Description:The Auxiliary Fire Service was created in July 1938 to assist the Fire Brigade during wartime. These part-time fire fighters were identified by this type of lapel badge. This particular badge belonged to Mr Haywood of Moss Pit, Stafford who wore it when attending meetings, as this it is recognised nationally.

White metal buttonhole badge. Circle with raised lettering surmounted by a crown - red enamelled decoration on crown and lettering AFS. Half-moon shaped grip attached to back.
