Description:A Bamfords 'Rapid' Grinding Mill. Although some farm animals can eat whole grain, it is more usual to crush it first. The grain is fed into the wooden hopper at the top and passes between two iron grinding plates, one of which revolves. It is belt driven and is pictured on display at Shugborough Park Farm, where it was powered by the water mill. This machine was used at Village Farm, Brocton, near Stafford.

Bamfords was founded in Uttoxeter in 1871 by Henry Bamford and made water pumps, taps and agricultural machinery. Joseph Cyril Bamford split off from the Bamford company in 1945 to set up what has become known as JCB - J C Bamford Excavators Ltd.
