Description:This cotton dress has a printed floral design of sprigs and roses.

The rose has many meanings. It is commonly used to symbolise love and beauty but roses can also symbiolise youth, blood and war.

The skirt of the dress would have been supported by layers of cotton petticoats together with a petticoat stiffened with quilting to give the skirt its shape.

This dress belonged to Hannah Upton, a seamstress from Blithfield (born in 1803).
