Description:Denstone College was begun in 1868 and opened in 1873 as St. Chad's College with 46 boys. It was designed by William Slater and R.C. Carpenter in a Gothic style. The Chapel was built in 1879-87 and the Hall in 1888-91.

Denstone College was the first Woodard school in the Midlands. The Rev. Nathanial Woodard was a Victorian philanthropist who wanted to achieve 'the union of classes by a common system of education'. He founded a number of schools aimed at benefiting a wide range of people, particularly the poorer middle classes.
