Description:Portrait of Charles Augustus Leach, one of William Blake's friends. It is captioned "Chas. Leach (Bentley's Copy), Xmas 1908."

Charles Augustus ‘Gus’ Leach was born on 13 October 1883 in Chorley, Lancashire and later moved to Hanley with his parents and siblings. By 1901 he was working as a clerk at a colour works and by 1911 he had been promoted to be a commercial traveller for a potters’ colour works. In the same year he married Jane Amelia Merriman. They lived in Stoke on Trent and then Meir. He died at Loggerheads Sanatorium on 23 March 1958, aged 74.
