Description:Mr Wilson is seen carrying the Uttoxeter Home Guard's 'prized' Browning Automatic Rifle.
The Home Guard did not possess any weapons until 6 months after their formation. When they did receive rifles, these were old USA-made weapons from WWI, without any ammunition. The members were clearly excited when they received this new Browning rifle! Nevertheless because the gun was foreign and ammunition was in short supply the gun was only ever fired three times.
