Creswell Hall was owned by the Meakin family, who were pottery manufacturers. Alfred Bate (back row, third from the left) was the chauffeur, the gardener, Jerry Tag, is wearing leggings. The other servants are unknown.

Louise Smith, seated on the front row second from the right, was the cook at Shugborough in the 1890s.
She married Thomas Langley and left domestic service before the age of 30 to keep house for her mother. She died in 1966 aged 92.
