Introduction: Mayor choosing, Newcastle
|
Date: 1908
Description: Mayor choosing happened every Charter Day in Newcastle until about 1932. From the 1860s it became the tradition for people to go to the Market Cross and have their photograph taken with the newly chosen Mayor. Here, Mayor Sidney Myott, can be seen with Councillors, the Police, and local people.
