Cauldon Canal near Lichfield Street, Stoke-on-Trent

Date: 1940 - 1960 (c.)

Description: This picture shows the Cauldon Canal running past a pottery factory near Lichfield Street in Stoke-on-Trent. Canals were a very important means of transporting raw materials and finished ceramic products: prior to the advent of the canals ceramic ware was transported by packhorse and over two-thirds of the consignment was often broken.
